·        Access to the ponds are private property since there is no public landing available. Most of the road-accessible ponds have quasi-public lands, meaning that the land is privately owned, but traditionally private owners have allowed unrestricted public use of the landing site. Boat landings can be found on Chemo, Parks, Hopkins (Mariaville side), Middle/Lower Springy, Fitts, Burnt (Dedham side), and little Burnt Ponds.

Parks & Trails
·        Brownie’s Park – 9-acre site close to the center of town, between Bennoch Road and the Stillwater River. Pedestrian and bike path along the river’s edge and an area to launch canoes and kayaks and swimming.
·        Webster Park – 5-acre park located between the Stillwater River and North Main Street – open land.
·        Marden Park – Located at the corner of Parks and Crosby Streets. Little league baseball field located here.
·        Nadeau-Savoy Park and Gould’s Landing – Located on Pushaw Lake on outer Essex Street – boat landing, picnic area, canoeing, kayaking and swimming.
·        Sklar Wilderness Park – 61-acrew located one mile from downtown, off Mainewood Avenue. Trails connect with others that run from Kelley Road to Main Street
·        Sailor Developmental Parcel – 3- acre parcel abutting Sklar Park – open space available.
·        Forest Avenue Parcel – South side of Forest Avenue. 1-acre lot and is diagonally across the street from the Orono Land Trust’s Cota Trail parcel. Potential link between the High School and the Jeremiah Colburn Natural Area.
·        The Jeremiah Colburn Natural Area – 23-acre parcel located near downtown off Forest Avenue. Hiking, x-country skiing, snowshoeing, and walking.
·        Marsh Island Natural Area – 29-acres of trails located at the end of Colburn Drive or the end of Penobscot Street.
·        Newman Hill Preserve – Hiking and bird watching.
·        Cota Trail Parcel – 2.5-acre lot located adjacent to the Jeremiah Natural Area and runs between Forest Avenue and the Colburn Parcel – point of access to the Marsh Island Natural Area. 
·        Pedestrian Paths – Access from Kelley Road, Willow Street, Page Place, Mainewood, Mountainview and Winterhaven Streets. The trails cross Sklar Park and the high school land, then end just before they reach Forest Avenue. Another set of trails can be accessed from either end at the Jeremiah Colburn Natural Area or the Research Park.
  • University of Maine Trails – 19-miles of x-country ski, biking and hiking trails on the University campus. Some of these trails enter Old Town. There is also a paved bike path that parallels College Avenue to the east and then veers east onto Stillwater Avenue. Pick these trails up by the University of Maine Recreation Center.
