Symptoms
 
Common stroke symptoms seen in both men and women:
 
·          Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg
·          Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
·          Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
·          Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
·          Sudden severe headache with no known cause
 
Women may report unique stroke symptoms including:
 
·          Sudden face and limb pain
·          Sudden nausea
·          Sudden chest pain
·          Sudden palpitations
·          Sudden hiccups
·          Sudden general weakness
·          Sudden shortness or breath
 

Act F.A.S.T. and Save Someone's Life
FACE
Ask the person to smile
 
Does one side of the face droop?
ARMS
Ask the person to raise both arms.
 
Does one arm drift downward?
SPEECH
Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence.
 
Can he/she repeat the sentence correctly?
TIME
If the person shows any of these symptoms, time is important
 
Call 911 or get to the hospital fast. 

 
 
Do All You Can To Prevent It!
 
·          Know your blood pressure
·          Do not smoke
·          Exercise
·          Find out if you have atrial fibrillation
·          If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation
·          Find out if you have high cholesterol and speak to your doctor
·          Enjoy a lower sodium (salt) lower fat diet 
·          Ask your medical professional about what tests you should have
